Inspired by Pixar

I watched a lot of Pixar movies lately and I decided to create a painting using a similar style. Stylization, bright colors, skewed contours, all that good stuff... The main source of inspiration was the wonderful art of Jeremy Vickery. He taught me a lot.

Follow the Black Wolf

A personal painting I did when I finished a certain project and had a few days of free time. Base mesh created in Maya, then I painted over the render & overlayed various textures. Done in about 7 hours.

Contourland

A new technique I've been trying out lately, full of harsh contours. I combined it with a fantasy world that is appealing yet creepy at the same time. The result is... interesting,I'd say. :-)

Walls of Primos

So, I decided this would be a good time to finish my old matte paintings. Gates of Primos are now more or less done... though I could work on this forever and I'd never feel satisfied. So I better post it.

Walls of Primos are impenetrable. Its gates are shut... The barbaric outside world may never enter the last outpost of humanity.

Shroom Huntin

Another quick color study. Oh, how I love this color palette... Simple, yet effective.

Follow the Glowing Balloons

A personal artwork. I always loved this color combination and I really wanted to do some fantasy, almost childish painting. Then I heard Tomas Zemler's Follow the Flying Squirrel and the idea was born. Hope you like the result.

Personal Painting

I decided to paint some images just for fun and this is the result. Both speedpaintings took about 30-60 minutes to finish.

My Latest Projects

Busy times, busy times... I've been working on a few projects these past few weeks (months) and it was mostly painting. Great practise for me, though I'd really like to get back to film work again. No matter, here I'm sharing some of them with you. Hope you like them.

This is a Star Wars artwork for Ki-Djowac, a client from Belgium.

This is a collection of images from a certain project I'm working on with a friend of mine. Stay tuned for more.

That's it for now. Hope to get back to AotF soon...

Featured in 2D Artist

My Dreaming of Paper Airplanes is now published in the 2D Artist Issue 68 gallery. It's a great honor for me, there's a lot of incredibly talented artists contributing to 2DA and I still don't really feel like being good enough to be listed among them. But hey, I won't be the one complaining... :-D

AotF: New team member + info

We have a new team member! I'd like to officially welcome Travis Wright, an amazing concept artist who will help us bring the main characters to live. To find out more about Travis, just visit his blog.

Also, I managed to finalize the script and quickly put together another concept, showing the Temple in all its glory.

Burning Skies Concept

We are still looking for talented artists to help us with our project! Currently we need:
- starship concept artist & designer
- environment designer
A lot of 3d is coming and so we need some pretty solid technical sketches for all the props, ships and machinery. If you'd like to help out, please contact me on martin.klekner@gmail.com

In the precious free time I so long to have now I managed to paint several digital and matte painting studies. By no means masterpieces, but it was great fun making them.

Grey Prince

My second attempt on painting a character. Pretty simple and not really as good as it should have been. Inspired by the newest Prince of Persia.
